Rain cover of the Hoppediz Cover 3-in-1 Stone, front view

A fleece cover is mainly used for extra warmth while babywearing. A rain cover is intended to keep out wind and rain; it does not automatically provide the same warmth as fleece. If you want to be able to use both, a combination with separate parts is convenient. With the Hoppediz Cover 3-in-1 Stone, you can use the fleece cover and rain cover separately or attach them to each other.

When do you choose a fleece cover?

When it is cool and dry, a fleece cover can be a comfortable extra layer over your baby carrier or baby wrap. The soft fabric is there for warmth. Do not expect fleece alone to provide the protection of a rain cover. So first consider what you need: is it mainly cold, or will you also be out in the wind with a chance of rain?

How is a rain cover different?

The rain cover of the Hoppediz 3-in-1 is made of nylon and, according to the manufacturer, is windproof and water-repellent. This makes it a different layer from the fleece cover. Water-repellent does not promise that you will stay dry indefinitely in every rain shower. Use the cover as instructed in the manual and, in bad weather, simply choose a shorter outing or a dry moment as well.

A combination with separate parts

The Hoppediz Cover 3-in-1 Stone consists of a fleece cover and a rain cover that you can attach to each other with press studs. This allows you to choose which part you need each time. The set also includes a fleece collar and hand warmers for the wearer. The photo at the top shows the rain cover; the fleece cover can be used underneath it.

Do the two parts always need to be used together?

No, quite the opposite. You can use the parts separately. In cool, dry weather, fleece may be sufficient as an extra layer. If you mainly want protection from the wind, you can use the outer cover. When it is cold and windy, the combination may be suitable. There is no fixed outdoor temperature that works the same way for every child. Consider the clothing your child is already wearing, the weather and how long you will be outside.

A baby carrier cover is not a baby carrier

A cover goes over a baby carrier or baby wrap and does not carry your child itself. So first adjust the babywearing product correctly. Keep your child's face clear and make sure they get enough fresh air. Regularly check while you are out that your child is sitting comfortably and is not too hot or too cold. The cover is an extra layer, not a replacement for suitable clothing or a correctly adjusted babywearing product.

Does it suit the way you carry?

The Hoppediz 3-in-1 is designed for front and back carrying. Before attaching it, read the instructions for the cover and those for your baby carrier or baby wrap. Check that straps and cords are positioned correctly and that they cannot catch on anything. Fit and circumstances differ for each parent and child; readjust the cover when someone else uses it or when you switch babywearing products.

What is the most convenient choice for you?

If you mainly walk short distances in dry weather, you need something different than when you are often outside and may encounter a shower along the way. Do not automatically choose the thickest combination, but the parts that suit the situation. Store a separate part somewhere easily accessible and follow the care label for washing.

If you want to switch between fleece, a rain cover and using both together, take a look at the Hoppediz Cover 3-in-1 Stone. This allows you to adjust the extra layer without choosing a different cover for every type of weather.
