That’s why you choose Slings & Things
The right baby wrap size depends mainly on your build, the carry you want to use and how much fabric you find comfortable. For many parents, size 6 is a good base size, but it is not a hard-and-fast rule. If you are taller, wear a larger clothing size or would like plenty of room for tying off, size 7 or 8 may be more comfortable.
A woven wrap such as the Hoppediz Grenada Rose gives you plenty of freedom to adjust the wrap exactly as you like. The jacquard weave feels soft while also providing comfortable support. This makes it a great example of a wrap where the size and the way you tie it together determine carrying comfort.
A baby wrap size tells you something about the length of the wrap, not your baby's clothing size. This can be confusing at first. So you do not choose size 6 because your baby wears a particular size, but because that wrap length suits your carry and your body.
The same wrap may be more than long enough for one parent and feel just a little too short for another. That is normal. Build, shoulder width, front or back carrying and the way you tie off all make a difference.
For the familiar base carry, the FWCC, size 6 is often used as a starting point. That size works well for many parents. If you prefer some extra length or do not want to have to be so precise when tying off, a longer wrap can sometimes feel more relaxed.
On the size guide page, you will find a practical overview by clothing size. Use it as a starting point, not as a hard-and-fast rule. Fit and preference vary from parent to parent and from situation to situation.
A shorter wrap can be useful if you mainly use quick carries, want to take less fabric with you or prefer a more compact carry. Think of simple hip or back carries where you do not need the full base length. This can be useful when you are out and about or for parents who find long wrap tails inconvenient.
If this is your first wrap and you want plenty of scope for practising, a shorter size is usually less forgiving. In that case, a base size is often more practical because you have more room to tighten and tie off neatly.
A longer wrap gives you more room to work with. This is useful if you have a larger build, want to use a carry with extra layers of fabric or like to tie off with plenty of room. A slightly longer size can also be more convenient when two parents want to use the same wrap.
Do bear in mind that longer is not automatically better. Too much fabric can actually get in the way if you are petite or mainly want to use quick carries. So do not choose based on reassurance alone, but also on how you will actually use the wrap.
The Hoppediz Grenada Rose is a woven wrap made from 100% organic cotton with a jacquard weave. The wrap weighs 230 g/m² and is designed to grow with your child from birth through the toddler years. The centre marker and differently coloured edges help you find the middle and tighten the wrap neatly.
These features do not yet tell you which length is best for you. Your build, favourite carry and when you use it remain important factors. If you mainly want a versatile starting point, look at a base size first. For quick short carries, a shorter wrap can be a good addition later on.
Also take a look at the Hoppediz baby wraps if you are looking for a soft, firmly woven wrap with a calm appearance. In the woven wraps category, you can continue by looking specifically at size, material and when you will use it. Would you like to compare at your leisure first?
