Materials

Materials

Do you choose a 100% cotton baby wrap, or a baby wrap made with other materials as well? Each material has certain properties that make the baby wrap strong, soft or breathable. And that while cotton is already incredibly supportive and soft!

Cotton

Most baby wraps are made of cotton or cotton combined with another material. Cotton is a plant-based fibre, it feels wonderfully soft against the skin without the risk of itching or an allergic reaction. Cotton is both soft and strong, absorbs moisture and is easy to clean. Cotton is also actively breathable, which means that excess body heat is released as water vapour. A baby wrap made of cotton can therefore be used all year round.

Linen

Lightweight and supportive, can that combination really exist? Absolutely—it can be found in a linen baby wrap. A linen wrap is neither too warm nor too cool: ideal for mums and little ones who get warm easily! Linen is also incredibly strong, so you can easily carry a heavy toddler in a linen baby wrap. It may feel a little stiff at first, but if you give it a little love, a linen baby wrap is guaranteed to become your favourite!

Wool

Wool baby wraps are truly sublime! Wool breathes and ventilates, making it wonderfully airy to wear in summer. Wool baby wraps help maintain your body temperature, so in winter they are wonderfully warm! Wool is also flexible and moulds to your body even better than cotton. Comfortable baby wraps that can be used all year round!

Silk

A silk baby wrap is wonderfully soft and supple straight out of the box, with a subtle sheen. By the way, a soft wrap does not mean it is less strong; adding silk has no effect whatsoever on its strength. Because of the use of silk, these baby wraps may contain some irregularities, but rest assured; this has no effect on the quality or appearance of the wrap. If you choose silk, your baby wrap is 100% babyproof! Bourette silk is a type of silk with more texture and less shine. A wrap with Bourette silk has more grip, making it particularly suitable for heavier children.

Hemp

Hemp is exceptionally strong, so you can easily continue carrying your toddler or preschooler in it. It softens quickly, but these are sturdy wraps. The heavier varieties are not ideal for carrying babies, but the lighter varieties work perfectly well! With hemp, you get a sturdy baby wrap that can take a knock!

Bamboo

Like cotton, bamboo is plant-based. Bamboo grows quickly, and no pesticides or chemical fertilisers are needed to grow and keep the crop healthy. Bamboo has a beautiful sheen, a fluid drape and is known for its antibacterial properties. A wrap with bamboo feels wonderfully soft and cool.

Repreve

Repreve is made from recycled PET bottles and contains no BPA. The PET bottles are cleaned and processed into flakes, which are converted into Repreve fibres and then processed into yarns that some brands use in their baby wraps. Repreve feels wonderfully soft and supple straight away, and it regulates temperature.

Tencel®

TENCEL® is made from pure natural wood cellulose and combines the most desirable and important properties of many natural and synthetic fibres; TENCEL® is as soft as silk, as strong as polyester, as easy to care for as acrylic, as cool as linen, as warm as wool, and much more absorbent than cotton.

Kapok

Kapok is an eco-friendly and hypoallergenic fibre, is odourless and requires no pesticides to grow. A kapok wrap feels silky soft and almost lighter than cotton, and is breathable and temperature-regulating just like wool.

Babycamel

Babycamel yarn is a ‘luxury’ fibre and can be used at 100%, or in blends with wool. Babycamel has the same properties as wool and is wonderfully warm. Babycamel yarn is white to light brown in young animals, with a darker and coarser fibre in older animals. It is possible to lighten the fibre by bleaching it lightly, but this can affect the softness of the fibre. This makes babycamel more expensive than camel yarns.

Seacell

Seacell is an environmentally friendly fabric made from seaweed. A small percentage of the plant is blended with cellulose. Seacell feels silky soft, including against your skin. The fabric is breathable and lightweight. However, the most impressive aspect of this fibre is that the nutrients contained in seaweed are retained in the fibre, including iron, calcium, magnesium and vitamin E.
